All about Belinda
Belinda’s editorial career began way back in 1989. There was no desktop publishing and she spent a lot of her time typing manuscript rejection letters on an Amstrad word processor. As an editorial assistant at a small children’s publisher, she soaked up the publishing process, learning about each department in detail alongside her editorial role.
A few years later, Belinda joined Miles Kelly as a children’s book editor. She spent her first year working on a complex six-volume children’s encyclopedia for an American client. This involved commissioning hundreds of illustrations for children, a process she still enjoys today. She became hooked on illustrated non-fiction books for kids – and has remained so ever since.
Throughout her career, Belinda has written, project-managed and helped to publish hundreds of books for children. She has worked alongside talented children’s editors, freelance designers, authors and illustrators. There is nothing she loves more than brainstorming new ideas and children’s book concepts with a creative team. She has a keen interest in natural history and science subjects and is a complete dinosaur nerd.
Today, as a freelance non-fiction editor, Belinda works on books for adults and children. She provides a full range of editorial services from proofreading to project management. She also writes and consults on books for children aged 5 to 10. Her current children’s book writing project is a four-book series for 6-to-8-year-olds about how small actions can make a big difference to the health of our planet. She has recently written two children’s encyclopedias, which are due for publication in 2024.

Fun facts about Belinda
Belinda lives with her partner and their dog in the beautiful Suffolk countryside. She spends a lot of time hiking, and it’s rumoured her Labrador is the most-walked pooch in England.
As much as she loves Suffolk, Belinda’s favourite places to visit are the Lake District and Scottish Highlands. She loves to climb a mountain or two.
Belinda has run many half marathons and two full marathons, all in pretty decent times. However, she’s currently hung up her trainers in favour of walking and yoga.
Belinda is slightly vampire-obsessed. Her favourite novel is Dracula by the brilliant Bram Stoker. She read all the Twilight novels back-to-back and has watched each movie more times than she can remember.
