All about Becky
Becky started as an editorial assistant in 1993 after graduating from Warwick University with a degree in Comparative American Studies. A busy few years took her from Kingfisher Books, where she worked on children’s encyclopedias, to DK Travel Guides and then DeAgostini Editions where projects included Malcolm Bradbury’s Atlas of Literature.
Moving to Duncan Baird Publishers, Becky continued the travel theme and became a managing editor overseeing a team packaging travel books for DK and AA Publishing. Highlights included research trips to Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon – yes, really – which, among other things, helped gather information needed to commission detailed cutaway illustrations.
In 2002, Becky moved out of London with her family and worked as a freelance editor for a while before taking up a position at children’s book publisher Miles Kelly. This time she was managing the new Ripley’s Believe it or Not! annual, which became an international bestseller. Becky was part of a small team that went on to become Ripley Publishing, a separate company tasked with maintaining the annual’s success and producing a range of ‘Ripley style’ non-fiction children’s books.
After a few years as editorial director here, freelance life called again and since 2015 Becky has been working as a project manager, editor, writer and proofreader for a wide range of publishers in an even wider range of subject areas, including health and wellbeing, art and design, travel, cookery, adult fiction and all manner of children’s non-fiction. She loves liaising with authors and in-house editorial teams and learning all about the subject of whichever book she is working on, all of which comes in very handy for pub quizzes!

Fun facts about Becky
Since becoming an empty-nester, Becky has swapped being a football mum and party taxi for new hobbies including pottery and cocktail-making. She makes a mean French 75 and a very pretty negroni.
Becky and her husband love exploring new cities, especially their galleries, bars and restaurants. She particularly enjoyed visiting Glasgow last year and sampling the best Italian, Ethiopian, Indian and Scottish food it had to offer.
Becky also lives with a handsome English pointer called Scout and two black and white moggies named Chelsea and Drogba. With hindsight, she may not have let the children name the cats but feels it could have been worse.
Travelling around South America in the early 90s was probably Becky’s biggest adventure, not least because she met her husband there during the Rio Carnival.
